Operational risk management in a central bank

In contrast to credit and market risks, operational risk remains poorly understood and managed.  For central banks and financial regulators, operational and reputational risks are of significant importance, due to their role in the financial sector and economy. This course is designed for central bank and financial regulator professionals who want to increase their understanding of risk management in the context of their institutions.  The course is primarily focused on operational risk and how it can impact an organization.  The course is interactive and is comprised of a lecture, case studies, and relevant articles to supplement discussion of recent developments in operational risk management.

  • Define operations risk and describe where it can be found at a central bank and financial regulatory entity
  • Discuss best practices for controlling operational risk
  • Apply the concepts and skills attained during the course to work in groups and frame solutions for real-life case studies involving operations risk
