Advanced Electronic Fraud Risk Management, Detection and Prevention

The rapid growth of digital banking, electronic payments, mobile financial services, internet banking and automated transaction platforms has significantly increased the speed and convenience of financial services while simultaneously creating new opportunities for electronic fraud. Fraudsters are increasingly using sophisticated techniques, social engineering, compromised credentials, malware, phishing, account takeover, identity theft and emerging technologies to exploit weaknesses in digital financial systems.

The Advanced Electronic Fraud Risk Management, Detection and Prevention programme is designed to equip banking, financial-sector and regulatory professionals with advanced knowledge and practical capabilities to identify, assess, prevent, detect, investigate and respond to electronic fraud risks.

The programme goes beyond traditional fraud awareness by examining the modern electronic-fraud landscape and the interaction between technology, human behaviour, financial controls, cybersecurity and fraud risk management. Participants will explore fraud risks associated with electronic payments, cards, mobile banking, internet banking, digital wallets, automated systems and other technology-enabled financial services.

Particular emphasis will be placed on fraud risk assessment, transaction monitoring, fraud indicators, behavioural analytics, anomaly detection, suspicious transaction patterns, authentication controls, access management, segregation of duties and real-time fraud detection. Participants will also examine how data analytics and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning can be used to identify unusual transaction behaviour and strengthen fraud prevention.

The programme will further address fraud investigation and response, including evidence preservation, incident escalation, investigation techniques, root-cause analysis, recovery of losses, reporting, disciplinary and legal considerations, and post-incident control improvements. Attention will also be given to emerging fraud techniques and the importance of continuously adapting institutional controls.

Through practical case studies, fraud scenarios, transaction-analysis exercises and simulated investigations, participants will develop the ability to recognise vulnerabilities and recommend appropriate preventive, detective and corrective controls.

Strategic organisational value

The programme will enable institutions to:

Strengthen electronic and digital fraud risk management frameworks.
Detect suspicious and abnormal transactions earlier.
Improve controls over electronic payment channels.
Reduce financial losses arising from digital fraud.
Strengthen transaction monitoring and fraud analytics.
Improve investigation and incident-response capabilities.
Enhance customer and institutional protection against digital fraud.
Address emerging AI-enabled and technology-driven fraud threats.
Strengthen coordination between fraud, ICT, cybersecurity, risk, compliance and internal audit functions.
Improve regulatory compliance and fraud reporting.
